Upgrade Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) to Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Beta

Note: This is a beta release. Do not install it on production machines. The final stable version will be released on October 29th, 2009
Important Notes Before Upgrade
* Take a complete Back up all your data. There is no guarantee that all will go well
* Be sure that you have all updates applied to Ubuntu 9.04 before you upgrade
To upgrade from Ubuntu 9.04, press Alt+F2 and type in “update-manager -d” (without the quotes) into the command box click on Run.Once we have got stable release you just remove -d option.
Update Manager should open up and tell you: New distribution release ‘9.10′ is available. Click on Upgrade
This will show you Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala Release notes click on upgrade

Note:- If you are using any third party sources in your /etc/apt/sources.list file it will be disabled at the time of upgrade process message will appear.
Setting new software channels in progress
Starting the upgrade process window click on Start Upgrade
Downloading the new Packages in Progress
Installing Packages in Progress
Installing Packages Progress in Terminal
Cleaning Up process in Progress
Now you should see Remove obsolete packages window here click on remove
You need to restart the system to complete the Upgrade by clicking “Restart Now”
Testing Your Upgrade
You can check the ubuntu version installed using the following command
sudo lsb_release -a

Following my earlier problems with upgrading to 9.10 (Karmic Koala) (see above) I wiped the whole installation and installed 9.10 from scratch. Whilst this still freezes once in the desktop, opting for “Gnome Failsafe” in the login screen now means I have a usable system. The problem with upgrading seemed to be that simply opening a window consumed 100% of the CPU!
I added the “crashkernel=384M-2G:64M@16M,2G-:128M@16M” thing but I didn’t have any luck.
I still get the white screen.
I remember a problem with my Intel 945GM video card when I upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04.
I solved that by rolling back my drivers.

Can I add this lines to my source.list without problems on karmic?

I solved my problem with the White screen at Gnome session!
I just ran:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel

Thanks anarkae. Tried this – got the message that the most up to date version was already installed on my system. My problem is probably a bit different, in that I get onto the desktop, only for the whole system to freeze (unless I login with Failsafe Gnome). My take is that my problem is still to do with graphics somehow.

i installed ubuntu on vaio p, and it is much better than way it was in vista. i wonder if there is new drivers available

i upgraded my Dell D620 laptop w/intel 945 gfx, and the white screen of death was so severe i couldn’t even ctrl-alt-f1 to a console – all the virtual terminals had diagonal white streaks on a black background.
i’m really glad i didn’t have to go the clean install route.
i have tried upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 but it comes with an error saying
“The upgrade is now aborted. Please check your Internet connection or installation media and try again. All files downloaded so far are kept.”
and evrything is correct when i google they talk about a bug, how can these be resolved.
